Summer is over, March has arrived and we have a few things going on that we hope you will enjoy! Below are the details of our first triathlon of the year, and in fact the first one at Lake Eacham in many many years, plus two fabulous training/accreditation opportunities. Please read through everything we have for you in March to ensure you don’t miss anything and feel free to share with anyone you know that might be interested in the information below.
LAKE EACHAM TRIATHLON
DATE CHANGE – SUNDAY 23 MARCH
Regrettably, due to matters beyond our control, we have had to postpone the Lake Eacham Triathlon, originally scheduled for this coming Sunday. It will now be held on Sunday 23 March and we will announce shortly when registration will open. Due to the logistics of holding such an event in a National Park with limited capacity we have had to restrict registration for this even to 150 people with only 2 distances being held – Enticer (Age 13+) (Swim 400mtr / Bike 10km / Run 3km) and Sprint (Age 15+) (Swim 750mtr / Bike 20km / Run 6km) & Sprint Teams (Age 13+). There will be no Juniors race.
Lake Eacham has two road access points with the first entry point closest to the Gillies Range closed entirely to traffic for the duration of the triathlon. As there is limited parking at Lake Eacham we will be organising a shuttle bus on the day from a location very close to the Lake – more information will be made available prior to race day. We are very sorry that we will not be able to accommodate a Junior’s race at Lake Eacham, but hope to see as many of you up there participating, volunteering or supporting and enjoying the day in such a beautiful and pristine environment. There will be a BBQ and refreshments available for purchase on the day, with all monies raised going directly to COUCH, a very worthwhile local charity with its main objective to build a Cancer Wellness Centre that will be available to all cancer sufferers and their carers.
VOLUNTEERS AND RACE DIRECTORS REQUIRED
As mentioned previously, it is a membership requirement for ALL MEMBERS to volunteer at least once at a race event during the membership year. Races cannot take place without volunteer assistance – YOUR assistance. If you have not done so as yet, can you please let us know what events you would like to volunteer at. If we do not have enough volunteers for a particular event we will be randomly drawing and allocating you to an event, so it is of course preferable that you let us know what dates work best for you. Please email catherine@cairnscrocs.org.au ASAP what date you prefer and are available – we are currently short of volunteers for the upcoming Lake Eacham triathlon. This event will be capped at 150 so if you are not able to race or have anyone travelling with you perhaps you or a friend or family member can volunteer to help out on the day? Please be mindful that without YOUR HELP there are NO RACES – thank you so much in advance for your help.
We are also seeking the help of those who would like to assist by being a Race Director for one race during the racing year. Assistance will be given – if you are interested please email info@cairnscrocs.org.au. Once again, everything we do behind the scenes and on race day is done entirely by volunteers, this included Race Directors, so we really appreciate all your help.
TRYSTARS PROGRAM – ACCREDITATION COURSE
18 & 19 MARCH
Cairns Crocs Triathlon Club are very excited to announce that we will be conducting a TRYstars program. TRYstars is a junior triathlon program designed to introduce kids aged 7-12 years to the sport of triathlon and provide skill development in swimming, riding, running and transition.
If you are interested in assisting to help develop this triathlon program for our juniors (which we hope to role out prior to Ironman Cairns to prepare the little ones who wish to participate in IronKids), we are conducting a TRYstars Accreditation Course, which will be conducted by Triathlon Queensland and held 18th March (6pm-8pm) and 19th March (3.30pm-5.30pm). The accreditation cost is FREE – if you are interested, and for further information, please email your expression of interest to info@cairnscrocs.org.au.
TRIATHLON QLD – LEVEL 1 TRIATHLON COACHING COURSE – 29 & 30 MARCH
