Happy New Year 2015

Hello to all our valued Crocs Members and Friends,

Your 2015 Management Committee wish you a very Happy New Year! We all hope you had a great festive season and are 100% ready to dive head first into what promises to be a huge year.

We’ve a lot to tell you about!

Our first order of business is to introduce your 2015 Crocs Management Committee:

President: Kylie Anderson
Vice President: Liz Terrens
Secretary: Karen Reimann
Treasurer: Annie Fishburn
Committee: Renee Ker, Brad Miller, Lisa Monks, Guy Trezise
Club Administrator: Rob Mackenzie

We have a great team on the Committee again this year and we have every confidence that 2015 will be the Crocs best year yet!  Our Annual AGM and 20th Anniversary Gala Presentation Dinner were held on Saturday 6th December. Both events were extremely well attended and the Gala Dinner was a brilliant way to end a busy and at times, challenging year!

Congratulations to our Award recipients for 2014, especially to our overall Club Champions Rob Mackenzie and Carmel Hickey. Rob and Carmel have raced consistently well through the year and are well deserving recipients of the Club Championship Awards.

The Club also recognised its hard working Volunteers. Jo Van Gorp spend an inordinate amount of time behind the scenes assisting the Committee, as well as volunteering at most races this year. Congratulations to Jo on being named the Crocs Volunteer of the Year. Special mention must also go to Fiona Lenz, Mick Denman, Michelle Maddison and Lynton Bowen for their invaluable support in 2014.

The following award recipients were not able to be at the presentation – Scott Edwards, Ian Ritchie, Gary Cotter, Nicola Roberts, Harriet Grant, Sioux Campbell and Michelle Maddison. Your awards will be available for you to collect at the Welcome Function on the 18th January, and at the first race of the season at Tinaroo on the 8th February.

2015 Race Calendar

We finalised our 2015 Race Calendar and presented it during the Gala Dinner in December. We are pleased to offer our members and guests 7 races in 2015, including two duathlons. Duathlons are very popular (for some reason many triathletes just don’t like to swim!!), and present an excellent way to encourage newbies into the sport.

We are excited to announce that our signature ladies only event Tri de Femme will not only be run in Cairns in 2015, but we are teaming up with the Free Radicals Tri Club to bring the race to Townsville also! The Townsville race is scheduled for late March, so let everyone know!

Planning is already in progress for Tri Port, which will be back bigger and tougher than ever in 2015 with a new format.

Club Sponsorship Opportunities

With over 300 members and counting, the Cairns Crocs Triathlon Club is the premier Triathlon Club in North Queensland. With our events being widely attended, advertising and sponsorship opportunities put your business in front of a captive audience.  Increase your visibility, build your brand awareness and position your company as a leader in the multisport industry in North Queensland.  Your business will receive a number of benefits as a Cairns Crocs Triathlon Club Sponsor. To discuss tailored packages that support your business initiatives and align with your plans, contact renee@cairnscrocs.org.au.

Bendigo Bank Community Enterprise

Did you know that if you bank with Bendigo Bank, the Cairns Crocs will benefit?  Through the Bendigo Bank Cairns Community Enterprise Program, for example, if you have a Bank Home Loan (eg. $300,000), it would generate $360 per year for the Crocs?

All you have to do is tell your Bendigo banker that you nominate and wish for Cairns Crocs to be your preferred CCE Group.

Crocs Tri Kit

Start your 2015 Tri season with new Crocs Kit!!  We have a great range of Crocs Kit available through our online store. To view and purchase please go to: http://www.scody.com.au/co-CairnsCrocs

The store will be open until the 14th JANUARY, with your kit dispatched 6-8 weeks later.

Call for Race Directors

Are you interested in stepping up and assisting your Club to make it better for all? Would you like to learn new skills and challenge yourself? Of course you do!!

To alleviate pressure on the Committee, we are calling for Race Directors for the Yorkeys Duathlon on 5th April and Lake Eacham on the 10th May.

Duties as Race Director include assisting the Committee with the pre-race planning (including lodgement of permits, sanctioning, liaising with relevant Council, Community organisations and the Traffic Management Company), race day operations and management, and of course the ever important post-race clean-up.  Contact info@cairnscrocs.org.au to express your interest.

Call for Volunteers

Guy Trezise has offered to coordinate volunteers for 2015.  Volunteering is a vital component of your Club Membership. Every member must volunteer for at least one race during the season. Get in first to lock your race in by emailing your name and the race you wish to volunteer at (eg. Joe Bloggs Lake Eacham May) to guy@cairnscrocs.org.au.  Feel free to nominate for all the races if you like!

2015 Championship Points

The final rules for calculating club championship points are still being finalised but there will be substantial points awarded for volunteering. Don’t forget that you can volunteer AND race. Help is always required with race set up and pack down.

Welcome Function

Our welcome function will be held on Sunday 18th January, and we will be introducing our valued 2015 Club Sponsors.  The function presents a great opportunity to meet your new Committee and mingle with your fellow athletes. New members welcome of course and you will be able to sign up on the day.  Keep your eyes peeled for location and registration details!

Junior Development

Our junior development for 2015 includes rolling out the wonderful Trystars Program more broadly with our wonderful coaches. Trystars was a brilliant success in 2014, and we can’t wait to see the next troop of budding young triathletes tackle the program! For more information on Trystars please email info@cairnscrocs.org.au

Member Survey

We invited attendees at the Gala Dinner to fill out a short survey to assist the new Committee in setting priorities moving into 2015/2016.

In short, the survey revealed the following:

  • Our selection of 2014 race venues was considered very good.
  • Members commented that they would like more races, and on average, raced in 2.9 of 7 Crocs races in 2014.
  • Members volunteered at an average of 1.8 Crocs races.
  • Members participated in an average of 1.5 non-Crocs events (eg. Ironman, TSV Tri festival etc).
  • Members commented that they would like more social events and seminars etc. The Season Launch and JCU Seminar were well supported, but many of the survey respondents didn’t attend any of the 2014 functions that were held.
  • Members wish for the Membership Fee to stay at $40.

The survey provided incredibly valuable feedback for your Volunteer Committee.

We are always open to your constructive feedback, so feel free to email info@cairnscrocs.org.au with any comments you may have.  Of course, we are also open to your personal assistance in bringing such feedback to fruition too!!

Your Crocs Committee wish you all an excellent New Year. We invite you to join us for a stellar year of racing and fun in 2015!

Train safe,

Kylie Anderson
